Teardown is a Chrome extension that reads the page you're currently looking at and shows you its structure. It has no account system, no analytics, and no backend. This policy explains exactly what that means.
Everything the extension produces stays in your browser. Nothing is transmitted to the developer or to any third party, with one exception you control, described under Webhooks below.
When you click Scan Page, a script runs in your active tab and reads, from the rendered page only:
If you use the Asset Scraper, it additionally reads image URLs from the page. If you use the Sitemap or robots.txt / llms.txt tools, the extension requests those files from the site you're on.
Scan results, your projects and your settings are written to Chrome's storage API on your own machine. Scan history is capped at the 50 most recent scans per project; older ones are discarded automatically. You can delete any project or clear a project's history at any time from within the extension, and uninstalling it removes everything.
None of this is synced to a server operated by the developer, because there isn't one.
Settings includes an optional Webhook URL field. It is empty by default. If you enter a URL, scan results are sent to that endpoint, one you choose and control, as a POST request. Nothing is sent anywhere if the field is blank. Clear the field to stop it.
The Insights tab includes links that open Ahrefs, Semrush, Ubersuggest and PageSpeed Insights for the current URL. These are ordinary links: nothing is sent until you click one, and once you do, that service's own privacy policy applies. Teardown is not affiliated with any of them.
No browsing history, no personal information, no telemetry, no crash reporting, no advertising identifiers. Nothing is sold or shared, because nothing is collected.
The extension is a professional tool and isn't directed at children under 13. No personal data is collected from anyone.
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it, and the updated version is published here before the change takes effect.
This website sets no cookies, uses no analytics and has no tracking pixels, so there is nothing to consent to and no banner to dismiss.
It does load three things from other people's servers, and being straight about it: your browser makes a request to each, which means each one can see your IP address and user agent.
None of them set cookies here and none receive anything about what you do on the page. We would rather serve these files ourselves, and intend to. Note this applies to the website only. The extension makes no such requests.
UK GDPR gives you rights over personal data held about you: access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection. In practice we hold no personal data about you, so there is nothing to disclose, correct or delete on our side. Everything the extension records is already on your own machine, under your control, and removed when you uninstall it.
