Accessibility statement

Teardown is a tool for finding accessibility and SEO problems on other people's pages, so it would be poor form not to be straight about its own. This statement covers both the extension and this website.

What we aim for

The target is WCAG 2.2 Level AA. We are not claiming full conformance, because the extension has not been through a formal third party audit. What follows is an honest account of where it stands.

What works

Text and background colours in both the dark and light themes are checked against WCAG AA contrast
The extension has a light theme for people who find the dark one hard to read, in Settings
Image thumbnails in the asset scraper and the alt text audit are reachable by keyboard, with visible focus rings, and respond to Enter and Space
The website works without JavaScript. Content is visible by default rather than revealed by script
The website respects prefers-reduced-motion and drops its animations entirely when that is set
Page structure uses real headings and landmarks, and every image has an alt attribute

Known problems

In the extension:

Heading levels are distinguished partly by colour on the level badge. The level is always written out as text too, so the information is not colour-only, but the colours themselves are not individually contrast-tested
The popup is a fixed 500 by 600 pixels, which is a Chrome constraint. It does not reflow, and at high browser zoom some panels will scroll rather than rewrap
Screen reader behaviour has been reasoned about but not tested with an actual screen reader. Some dynamic regions do not announce updates
Tab order through the five tabs follows the DOM and has not been explicitly managed

These are limitations we know about, not ones we are happy with. They are on the list.

The website

This site is a single dark theme. It does not offer a light mode, which may make it harder to read for some people. Browser zoom, reader mode and forced-colours mode all work, and you can override the styling with your own stylesheet without losing content.

Telling us about a problem

If something here is unusable for you, that is a bug and we want to know. Email hello@lukeduff.co.uk with what you were trying to do, what happened, and the assistive technology and browser you were using. We aim to reply within five working days.

Enforcement

Teardown is a free tool from a sole trader, not a public sector body, so the UK public sector accessibility regulations do not apply to it. If you are not satisfied with our response you can still contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service.
