Teardown is a free Chrome extension that reads the page you are looking at and reports on its structure. These terms cover your use of the extension and of this website. If you do not agree with them, do not install or use the extension.
Who provides it
Teardown is made and operated by Luke Duff, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom, trading through lukeduff.co.uk. In these terms "we" and "us" mean Luke Duff, and "you" means the person using the extension.
Your licence
You get a personal, non-exclusive, revocable, worldwide licence to install and use Teardown, at no cost, for your own work. That includes commercial use: auditing client sites, producing reports and charging for the service around them is expressly fine.
You may not:
- Sell, sublicense, rent or redistribute the extension itself, whether modified or not
- Present it as your own product, or remove the attribution in the interface
- Decompile or reverse engineer it in order to release a competing or derivative extension
- Use it as a component of an automated system that scans sites at scale without their operator's permission
The name Teardown, the logo and the interface design remain ours.
Acceptable use
Teardown reads pages you have already loaded in your own browser. You are responsible for having the right to be on those pages and to inspect them. In particular:
- Do not use it to access or inspect systems you are not authorised to access
- Do not use it to circumvent authentication, paywalls or access controls
- Respect the terms of service and robots directives of the sites you audit
- Do not use the webhook feature to route other people's data anywhere they have not agreed to
What you do with the output is your responsibility, not ours.
The output is information, not advice
Teardown reports what it finds in a page's markup at the moment you scan it. Its health score, recommendations and indexability verdict are automated heuristics. They are not professional SEO, accessibility, legal or technical advice, and they are not a guarantee of how any search engine will actually treat a page. Check anything important yourself before acting on it or passing it to a client.
Scores and thresholds reflect our judgement of common practice and may change between versions. A page that scores well can still rank badly, and a page that scores badly can rank fine.
Third party services
The Insights tab contains links that open Ahrefs, Semrush, Ubersuggest and PageSpeed Insights for the URL you are on. These are ordinary links. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or responsible for any of those services, and once you click through, their terms and privacy policies apply, not ours.
Availability and changes
The extension is provided as it is, when it is. We may change, update or withdraw it at any time, and Chrome may update it automatically. Features described on this site may be added, changed or removed. We do not promise that it will keep working with future versions of Chrome or with any particular website.
No warranty
Teardown is provided as is and as available, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error free, or that its results will be accurate or complete.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for any loss of profit, revenue, data, goodwill or business opportunity, arising out of your use of the extension or this site. This includes decisions taken on the basis of its output.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.
Because the extension is supplied free of charge, where liability cannot be excluded it is limited to ten pounds sterling.
Privacy
How the extension handles data is set out in full in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms. In short: scans stay in your browser, there is no account and there is no server behind the extension.
Ending it
You can stop using Teardown at any time by uninstalling it, which also deletes everything it has stored. We may end your licence if you breach these terms.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, the date at the top of this page changes with them and the updated version is published here. Continuing to use the extension after that means you accept the new terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK, you may also bring proceedings in your own jurisdiction.
